JUMONG

Sypnosis:

Wiman-Chosun has fallen to the Han Empire of China. All that is left are separate city-states that have no choice but to appease the Han Empire. The Han are cruel, taking refugees prisoner and demonstrating their new iron weapons on them.

Hae Mo-su a legendary soldier joins hands with Geumwa the crown prince of Buyeo, in order to counter Han savagery, creating the Da-Mul Gun, a band of soldiers who defended Wiman-Chosun refugees. Hae Mo-su gets injured after a skirmish against Han soldiers, and floats down a river, half alive. The princess of the Haebaek tribe finds him and nurses him back to health. The two start a relationship. However, the Han are looking for Hae Mo-su, and discovering that the man the princess was sheltering looked like (and was) Hae Mo-su, and they raze the tribe to the ground. Hae Mo-su escapes just in time and travels until he meets a caravan from the tribe of Gyeh-Ru. The head merchant, who is also the ruler of the Gyeh-Ru tribe, offers Hae Mo-su a job within the caravan, not knowing who the man is. The ruler, Yeon Ta-Bal, tells Hae Mo-su to join him in his tent, and they introduce each other and share a conversation. News of the Habaek tribe pops up in the middle of the conversation, and seeing the shocked look on his guest's face, Yeon Ta-Bal begins to suspect the guest of being Haemosu himself. The next day, the caravan travels but stops when they hear that Yeon's wife has gone into labor. They set up camp and So Seo-No is born and protected, as Hae Mosu defends the trade caravan against a band of thieves, reinforcing Yeon's assumption. Yeon's caravan has trading rights with the Han Dynasty itself. Yeon knows of Hae Mosu's escape, and a great reward for his capture. At this point, he is fully convinced that his guest is Hae Mosu. Yeon decides not to turn Hae Mosu in, because of his deed of defending his caravan and his daughter from harm.

Hae Mo-su returns to Geumwa, and they resume the skirmishes. However, as the Damulgun progress in their obejective to free all refugees, the Han disguise Han soldiers as fake refugees, whom the Damulgun attempt to rescue. Ambushed by the fake refugees and "ironclad cavalry," the Damulgun with him are killed, and he is captured. Hae Mosu is subsequently tortured and blinded by the Han.

Geum-wa, attempts and succeeds in freeing Hae Mo-su, who, though blind, is able to ride a horse. Geum-wa ultimately fails in his task to save Hae Mo-su, who Geumwa sees, trapped upon a chateau, shot with arrows and presumably dead in the river.

Haebaek princess has Hae Mosu's child. She goes to the Crown Prince of Buyeo. After bearing her son, Jumong, he becomes a prince of Buyeo (after the enthronement of the Crown Prince) and she a Royal Concubine upon the new Emperor's insistence. Jumong will learn of his father, his violent rivalry among him and his half-brothers, his love for Soseuno, and finally, a revival of the Da-mul Gun and the founding of Goguryeo.

Jewel in the Palace

Well, this is the series that I love the most. And it will have it's final airing this coming Friday and I won't let it end without even featuring it in my blog. I mean the whole story is excellent! The best! The best...Just watch it in DVDs if you have missed it. It's worth all your time. You can learn all the values in life in that one show. Kudos to the writer and also to the director. The story is the best so far! Kapuso, don't miss the final airing this Friday. Anyways, here're some stuff about this show...
The TV miniseries Daejanggeum, or Jewel in the Palace, which aired on MBC from September 15, 2003 to March 23, 2004, set many new records. The miniseries, whose viewer rate averaged 47%, and even reached a high of 57.8%, is based on the story of a real historical figure (Jang-geum) who was the first and only woman to serve as head physician to the King in the rigidly hierarchical and male-dominated social structure of the Joseon Dynasty.
Daejanggeum, in English, “the Great Jang-geum,” caught the attention of Korean TV viewers with its unique combination of two themes: the successful rise of a female, which is rarely covered in historical genre, and the elements of traditional food and medicine. For three months, beginning in May 2004, Daejanggeum aired in Taiwan, overtaking other Taiwanese miniseries, and snatching the title of most viewed program of the season. In fact, nowadays, visiting Taiwanese fans flock to the main filming locations on Jeju-do Island, the Korean Folk Village, Naganeupseong, Suwon Hwaseong Haenggung Palace, and Changdeokgung Palace.
The series was also launched on NHK satellite TV beginning October 8, 2004. In spring 2004, Daejanggeum also gained popularity in the West when the drama aired in 60 episodes on WOCH-Ch in Chicago, drawing large numbers of Daejanggeum aficionados.
These days, the main filming locations in Jeju-do Island, Korean Folk Village, Naganeupseong, Suwon Hwaseong Haenggung Palace, and Changdeokgung Palace are crowded with Taiwanese fans.

As a young child, Jang-geum loses both parents and enters the royal palace in the kitchen. In the royal kitchen, she spends a harsh childhood in continuous competition with Choi Geum-yeong (played by Hong Li-na). Under the protection and tutelage of Court Lady Han, Jang-geum makes every effort to become the best cook in the palace. Her endeavors enable her to become a recognized cook; but Lady Choi and her faction, jealous of the success of Lady Han and Jang-geum, plot a conspiracy, which leads to the death of Lady Han and Jang-geum’s expulsion from the royal palace. Jang-geum is relegated to the position of maidservant for the local government office on Jeju-do Island. While in exile, Jang-geum learns medicine. Through native intelligence and patient efforts, she earns her reputation as a woman doctor on the island. After a time, she returns to the palace, where she is recognized by the king and becomes the royal physician and also the first female physician in history to serve the king. The king falls in love with her, but she cannot return his love, as she is already in love with Min Jung-Ho, who has stood by her side during the most difficult times. * The concluding part omitted.
